Hi Group!,
I have a problem with my DV Converter (a Sony DVMC-DA1). You see
I have an iMac and one day I was working a project with it importing
it from my computer to my TV. It was about 10 minutes long, everything
was going well. Then around the 3-4 minute mark, all by itself, the
film just stopped all by itself and all of a sudden this message came
up which read...
"Firewire camera is not powered on or is not available. This also can
happen if you added or removed a device from Firewire. Plase try
again".
....and trust me Iv'e been trying again...and again...and again and @
random (don't know when it's gonna happen) it still does it. Sometimes
it gets through, sometimes (usually all the time) it doesen't. What
the hell is going on here and what can I do to stop it? >> Stay informed about: Firewire and a DV Converter: A Problem |

My first thought might be a bad cable. I use one of Sony's converters
fairly often without issue. >> Stay informed about: Firewire and a DV Converter: A Problem |

Had a similar problem with my (non-Sony) DV converter. Did you
try removing the device, power off your mac, power on, log in
then reconnect the DV device?
Are there other things on FireWire ports? If so, remove them as
well.
This only happened one time, and the above fixed it (tried reboot,
power off, etc, but only when I removed the unit, powered everything
off, rebooted and then reconnected it could I talk to it again).

You don't say what OS version you are using or what you use to import
the video. I assume iMovie but you never know.
I have the Mac OS X 10.2.8 update and haven't noticed any problems with
the update except a similar problem with my converter (Canopus ADVC-100)
and iMovie. iMovie just says that the camera isn't attached.
After using iMovie to import for a short time (it varies how long), I
get the message that the camera (my converter) isn't attached. If I
cycle power on the converter or relaunch iMovie it works again.
I haven't tried this yet but I'd recommend launching the Apple System
Profiler when you get the message. If the device is listed then it is
available but there might be a driver or application problem. >> Stay informed about: Firewire and a DV Converter: A Problem |

In the words of Homer Simpson, "D'oh"! Yeah, I did forget to mention
that I have Mac OS 9 (I'm old school, I know) and yes, I'm using
iMovie. Also, one person mention bad cables. I don't recall any so I
doubt that's it. Although, thank you so much for helping me out, those
who have. Keep those suggestions coming, please! >> Stay informed about: Firewire and a DV Converter: A Problem |
